About Me

My photo
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
I took very early retirement from teaching in '06 and did some traveling in Europe and the UK before settling down to do some private tutoring. As a voracious reader, I have many books waiting in line for me to read. Tell me I shouldn't read something, and I will. I'm a happy, optimistic person and I love to travel and through that believe that life can be a continuous learning experience. I'm looking forward to traveling more some day. I enjoy walking, cycling, water aerobics & and sports like tennis, volleyball, and fastpitch/baseball. I'm just getting into photography as a hobby and I'm enjoying learning all the bits and bobs of my digital camera. My family is everything to me and I'm delighted to be the mother of two girls and the Gramma of a boy and a girl. I may be a Gramma, but I'm at heart just a girl who wants to have fun.

B is for BOATS

First of all, I'd like to put out a warm welcome to our "newbies."  The first week of Round 12 brought quite a few new contributors, and I hope they enjoy the challenge of ABCW, created by our beautiful Mrs. Nesbitt and administered by our brilliant Roger.

I don't know why I'm intrigued by boats because I've never owned one.  However, I seem to always be taking photos of them.  It doesn't matter if it's a cruise liner (been on 3 cruises), a sailboat, a fishing boat, a motor boat (used to water ski when younger), or a simple little rowboat.  My DL used to have a sailboat and would love to have another, but I'm a bit skeptical since we are "getting on."  But, look at his beaming face!  Doesn't he look brilliant - I know he's feeling blessed and blissful.
Anyway, I've put together a little slideshow of some of my photos of boats that I hope you enjoy.  Some are from when I was away in England and Wales last summer and some are from my own neighbourhood near Vancouver, British Columbia.

Well I grew up boating...My parents bought their first boat when I was 8 so I was a very lucky girl and got to go boating all the time. Now hubby and I have two boats and again we love to be out on the water. Thanks for sharing B for Boats...just love it! Happy New Years Leslie..it's been awhile since I've been around but I'm back now. Take care!

i'm also fascinated with boats...especially the craftsmanship that goes into the making of a boat. about 2 years ago, i met a guy, i think he's Australian, he settled in Dumaguete City (one of the cities in Visayas region) and he build boats, beautiful, made-to-order sailboats and yachts.

I could not survive without living by my boating world on the peninsula! And I have never owned a boat either! I am just fascinated with the design and their energy as they sail! Always beautiful! Great variety of photos!

What a well documented eclectic mix of boats! I really like the flat houseboats in London. One thing about being around boats...the scenery usually is pretty nice!

daddy had a fishing boat when i was young, and there's something so peaceful about the movement of the water and the stillness in the boat and the sounds of nature all around. thx for evoking such sweet memories :)

Your DL's expression is beautiful. There's nothing like the look of people who are in touch with and doing what they love deepest and best. Happy Wednesday, Leslie!

A nice selection of boats. The 'Stranger on the shore' choice, raised a smile. I've never sailed anything but always like a mooch around a harbour.

All kinds of wonderful and brightly-colored boats in your slide show... how fun! Your hubby does indeed look like he's having the time of his life sailing!

Leslie, Leslie, i am such a delinquent blogger. Or, maybe, I'm just a delinquent. Period :) Thank you for your wonderful message with a barn suggestion. We're definitely going to check that out! I did an "A" post but it was too late to make ABC Wednesday. Now doing a "B" one that should be posted today. What can I say? Thank you so much for your wonderful spirit and energy. I loved your boats - the Tall Ships, the Yellow Submarine, the apartment (Wow!) and the familiar fishing boats and places around BC. Alaska was neat too. Hope I get there one day. Also loved the rich tone of that clarinet soloist in the music accompaniment. Just a stellar post!

Of course, we live in a part of the world that was almost built by boats. Maybe I'll see you out on the strait. - Margy

Excellent.. boating to me seems to be very calming ... however, it can also be very hectic and scary depending on the circumstances.

My dad had a great love for boats and the water, especially tall ships. Sadly, my mother is terrified of the water which kind of put a crimp in his sailing aspirations. I fell in love with tall ships when I saw the Pride of Baltimore II sailing into port in Oswego, NY a few years ago.

We used to have a boat to run about the river...now we are spending our time in our log cabin in the mountains.

Thank you for your warm welcome to ABCW, I enjoyed my first post sharing and look forward to many more!
